Early tracking for Marvel Studios Captain Marvel is projecting that will film will have an opening weekend of over $100 million when it hits theaters on March 8, which would make it the first big box office hit of 2019.
Aside from Black Panthers mammoth $201 million opening last year, this film is on pace to be the highest opening for a debut superhero installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. By comparison, 2016s Doctor Strange opened to $85 million, while 2014s Guardians of the Galaxy opened to $94 million. This tracking also means that Captain Marvel could rival or even top the last film to feature a female superhero, Wonder Woman, which opened to $103 million in 2017 and went on to gross $412.5 million domestic and $821 million worldwide
Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who was recovered by the Kree after mysterious circumstances and was transformed into the titular superhero at the cost of her memories. After crash landing back on Earth during the 1990s, Carol must recover her past self and save the planet from getting caught in an intergalactic conflict with the help of future SHIELD director Nick Fury.
Though Captain Marvel doesnt have the advantage of an introductory appearance like Black Panther did in Captain America: Civil War or Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman, her debut film will be seen as requisite viewing for hardcore Marvel fans as the heroine will play a critical role in Avengers: Endgame. Following the cliffhanger ending of Avengers: Infinity War, the forthcoming debut of the Captain and her connection to Nick Fury was teased in a post-credits segment, and fans will surely be interested to see why that relationship is so important.

When’s Barbara Stresand’s next movie coming out?
Girl power woo wee.
Have ZERO plans on seeing this.
Maybe she'll try play Wonder Woman in her next movie.
Looks stupid. I don’t even remember the Marvel version.
Capt. Marvel to me was Shazaam, the DC version.
Lol
Why does Hollywood do that? Hype a movie to the point where I have no desire to see it? Im convinced you can oversell a movie.
What is that; a crew of Marvellets with her?
Can you imagine the comic book boys lining up to see this dreck? Im sure well have a lot of movie reviews (mostly how bad ass she is) on FR
Yeah. I remember Marvel’s Captain Marvel as completely forgettable. Probably only read him (now her) as part of a team-up ish. He was the kind of hero Spider-Man would sigh, “What NOW???” When he appeared on the scene of whatever carnage was going on at the moment.
Not gonna see it.
With you on that especially when the star, Brie Larson, is running around hammering white men at every opportunity.
I’ve seen most of the Marvel films but this one gets a pass from me. It just doesn’t look compelling from the trailers. I’ll wait for whatever’s next (Spiderman?) coming down the pike
Avengers: Endgame. April 26th.
haha no those are “Kree” she gets her powers from a dying alien of the Kree species if I recall
DC lost that fight decades ago.
Yeah, in the courts. But they do have a new Shazaam movie coming out. Looks like a lame comedy.
Oh yeah, the Kree. Forgot about them.
Weren’t they the same ones that recruited Nova? He was a teen that “found” a cloth mask that became a helmet when he wore it and gave him powers. Not like Marvel would ever redo stories (Thor was, as human, a doctor with a cane he’d hit on the ground and become Thor with his hammer. Probably yelling “the power of Greystoke” or something!)
LOL
Americans don’t have money to pay their tuition and doctor bills but they have 100 million bucks to spend on a dumbass movie on opening weekend. Go figure.
