In Việt Nam there may be more walking-around freedom of speech than here. There you don't disparage the government or its minions in public but neither do you lose a career for saying an unPC word or get shunned or sued for calling a man a man or a woman a woman or saying something unkind about someone's physical characteristics. In California it is a crime for a clerk in a store to use the "wrong" pronoun to a customer. There is nothing like that in VN.
