Had the honor to work with his son John who was a news anchor in Toledo. John took over the strip when his dad died. He worked with another “giant” of local news Don Edwards. They were newsmen of the highest order. Nothing “fake” ever made the newscast with these guys.

What a shame the profession has become a parody of what it once was.

Buzz was a Navy Seal before there were Navy Seals.
Terry & the Pirates were his buddies...

Definitely remember Terry & the Pirates. Haven’t seen a comic section in over 20 years. Used to live for the Sunday paper just to read all the greats.

When I worked in Toledo, Saunders, Edwards, Gendron and Tabner used to do a 90-minute newscast. 30 minutes of local, followed by Cronkite for 30 and then another 30 minutes of local news.

Learned a lot from those guys. Still have a blooper reel from when I worked there. Only lack the quad machine to play it back on. To see portions of a strip I used to follow become a subject on FR brought back a ton of memories.

Buzz, Terry, etc., appeared in the Asia edition of “Stars and Stripes” we got while living in Yokohama in the 1950s/early 60s.
