Not the same. Sams’s Club and Costco are membership stores. You agree to have your already paid for merchandise inspected at exit in exchange for the privilege of shopping there.

Other stores attempt to detain you and inspect your rightful property under intimidation. The merchandise became your personal property the moment the cashier accepted payment for it. I will however give a pass to stores that post this conspicuously as policy at the entrance.

The ex-employee was also an Army Veteran. While understanding the the company’s policy in this litigious culture, I can’t agree with the management in not allowing an exception. Especially in that Tyler had been immersed in the training which emphasized “duty, honor, country”. I believe his action was pretty instinctive. I wish Tyler well in obtaining his college degree and for a great and full life to come. Thanks for your service, brother!

Ideally he should have no problem getting a better job, one that values such nobility.

“’He said that if the local feral youth were at all organized or intelligent, they could clean out a Dicks in 3 minutes”

So how do we help them get organized?

What was Tyler doing outside....was he on his way to work?...or leaving it?...sounds to me he was off the clock...

Another article says helping customers outside.

BTW, apparently he’s been offered his job back.

The policy covers “potential” criminals. The man punched a police detective and was an “actual” criminal, witnessed first-hand.

Yup, and a violent one at that. There are a couple of aspects of that policy that would not seem to apply.
