A year ago Baltimore’s Mayor Thomas Ludwig John D’Alesandro Jr. was reeling from the blows of personal and political misfortune (TIME, April 26). His second son, Franklin Delano Roosevelt D’Alesandro, had been indicted for statutory rape; acquitted, young D’Alesandro was charged with committing perjury at the same trial. (He was again acquitted.) Charges of graft were billowing around City Hall, e.g., the mayor’s friend, Dominic Piracci, who had most of the city’s garage-building business, was convicted of conspiracy to defraud the city, and the record revealed that Piracci (whose daughter married the mayor’s eldest son) had written checks totaling...
Re several things.
The James Pollack was “Jack Pollack”, the softball playing Democrat machine kingpin of NW Baltimore. Saw him actually play back in the 60’s. He hands were in everything in the Democrat machines local organizations.
Does anyone recognize the name “Perrera” from that time period, as in the Mob?
The Baltimore Mob kept a very low profile and stayed out of drugs, robberies, etc. concentrating on prostitution, gambling. and loan sharking. The NY Mobe, esp. the Gambino Family, took care of the serious stuff in Baltimore.
By the way, there was an “invisible wall” around Little Italy where Nancy lived for a while. If you came across it, (ie. certain streets surrounding Little Italy, it had better have been to go to the restaurants only).
