Still running Snow Leopard 10.68 and no plans to upgrade ... Apple lost it after 10.6 and became something else more like MS.

I stayed with Snow Leopard for a very long time, in fact until last summer. I discovered that my the available gigabyte space was being sucked up by something. I could literally sit and watch it go down ever few seconds. I'm no tech person, and was planning on taking it into the shop to do the upgrade to High Sierra to see if that would fix the problem. In the meantime, I did some searches online, and decided to attempt the upgrade myself. If it didn't work, I'd take it into the shop. It took forever for the upgrade to be completed, but it worked. Whatever problem I had had with the disappearing space was eliminated. I actually ended up with 400 GB of available space after the upgrade, when I'd only had about 150 GB with the old OS. All I can think of is that my poor laptop was fighting with itself all this time, and I kicked myself for not having done it earlier. About the only problem I had when I installed OS 10.13 was that some saved emails in my mail account disappeared. Thankfully it was no big deal. Some old apps wouldn't work either, but I could upgrade those that I used, and tossed the ones I didn't use anymore.

My old iMac is another story. It's so old it couldn't even be upgraded to High Sierra. I only use it for downloading stuff, but Safari, Google and Firefox can not be upgraded at all. And I had to stop using Safari all together, because it stopped letting me access specific sites that I had been going to for a very long time...kept claiming it couldn't make a secure connection to those sites. I've been using Firefox instead, and it's still performing fine. Knock on wood!

My oldest son used to be a big Mac user, but got tired of Apple's BS, and uses PC's now with Linux. He's the tech geek in the family, but since he hadn't been keeping up to to date with Apple products, I could even ask him for help when my laptop space was disappearing. I'm 71, and cringe every time I think about having to replace one of my old Apple computers. They're not cheap, but I don't know if I'd be able to deal with a PC and Windows.
