That’s a good song, thanks!
Not my list friend, it’s the articles author.
Detriot City, Bobby Bare
There are dozens of other great songs and singers.
No Garth and Jim Reeves has to be there. I like Dwight but please not on this list. Merle doing Mama Tried is a must and so is ET.

And how could Ray Price not be there.

I'll tell you what it's not. It sure ain't that "Bro' Country Crap".....And nothing with a "Snap Track" can be Country Music, neither.
This Beat Is Killing Country Music
Best eveh!
Should include.
Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain - Willie Nelson.
Folsom Prison Blues - Jonny Cash.
Your Cheatin Heart - Hank Williams.
Tumbling Tumbleweeds - Sons of the Pioneers.
El Paso - Marty Robbins.
I am absolutely astonished that “Achy Breaky Heart” didn’t make the list. :-)
.
Don’t forget Frankie Laine. I like Jezebel and Lucky Old Sun better than Rawhide, but all will do. On an aside, Amazon Prime has reruns of “The Rebel” with Nick Adams as Johnny Yuma. Theme song by Johnny Cash that I could sing along with at first rerun. A post Civil War Confederate Soldier might not play well nowadays, despite some fairly meaningful themes for a 30 minute show.
What about “Elvira”...
Giddy up oom poppa omm poppa mow mow
Giddy up oom poppa omm poppa mow mow
Heigh-ho silver, away
The perfect country song. Herd it many times at Swinos 5th Quater in Athens, Ga. great times 70s fun
He's probably most famous for singing the theme song to "Blazing Saddles".
Ghost Riders In The Sky was first released in 1946.
So many great songs... I like “Crazy Arms,” among many dozens more. https://youtu.be/RAvRE9eRNF0
I’d add Harvest Moon by Neil Young, just an absolutely beautiful song.
I’d also add some Hank Snow, Red Foley, Ernest Tubb and even though it’s bluegrass I’d definitely put in Cripple Creek, Foggy Mountain Breakdown and Orange Blossom Special.
I do agree that I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry is the greatest country song of all time, though!
Trying to determine the best country songs of any time is a fool's errand.
It is fun, though, to listen to just a tiny sampling of great tunes that have stood the test of time.
Even the lyrics are classic country:
Hear that Peterbilt whine,
Down the solid white line.
Don't make no money if I dont make it there on time.
Houston - Dallas - San Antone,
Wind it up until Im home.
Ive got fourteen gears to get you back in my arms.
LOL!
Listen to REAL country, there was plenty waiting for your arrival!!
Gotta admit the 1949 chice was a good ‘un. Can’t beat Hank.
Elvis sang I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry during some shows. He said it was the saddest song he ever heard.
