'Spider-Man: Far From Home' casts trans actors in Marvel blockbuster

The internet was buzzing earlier this week as the first trailer for "Spider-Man: Far From Home" was released by Marvel, featuring Spidey and film star Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio.

But the web is also excited about the film for reasons beyond the main players. Marvel has cast trans actor Zach Barack as one of Peter Parker's buddies who travels with him to Venice on a high school field trip.

The 22-year-old actor hails from Evanston, Illinois and is an actor, singer and comedian. This marks one of the first times a trans actor has been featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In addition to Barack, The Advocate reports the film also cast trans actor Tyler Luke Cunningham as a featured extra.

"Spider-Man" follows popular CW show "Supergirl," which cast 21-year-old Nicole Maines to play hero Dreamer. In the show, Dreamer is transgender, like the actress, but she doesn't let this define her in any way, other than just always fighting for what's right.

Maines, a transgender activist and actress, knows how special this season was for actors like Barack.

Based on Hollywood, one would think that at least 5-10% of the population is transgender.

MCU fans had a nice 10 year run. Maybe 11 if Endgame is near as good as Infinity War. It was bound to become converged at some point.

I predict a boomerang effect in the opposite direction by Gen. X. Meaning, a large percentage of these young people may revert to very traditional, very cut and dried ways of defining male and female. Kids tend to rebel anyway, don’t they? That is both my expectation and my hope.

I wasn’t all that impressed with Infinity War. Wanted more Hulk smashing! Hopefully big green and mean will be unleashed in Endgame.

I think there’s still a lot of gas in the MCU tank. I expect to see both Endgame and Captain Marvel at the theater, and before long Feige and gang will be working with the FF and X-Men. Then there’s the Disney+ streaming service that will have series with characters from the movies. With Feige in control those series should be much better than the crap that ABC had.

Somewhere down the line: Secret Wars, with the Beyonder, the Avengers, the X-Men and Fantastic Four all appearing in the same film. Hard to believe they contain it all in one, maybe they’ll do 2 a la Avengers 3 and 4.

On a related note, one comic book tv series that I absolutely love is Gotham on Fox. This is the last season which should end with Bruce finally wearing the cowl. That show has been just downright fun.

Sensational Gotham last night. And as for Marvel, will they finally find the secret of casting a perfect Fantastic Four? The FF onscreen has always been uneven at best — I think because the filmmakers insist on messing with the Lee-Kirby original.

Hint: Just let the FF be the FF! Quit injecting the politically-correct crap.

Unless they change their chromosomes, they’re not changing from a boy to girl or girl to boy...

The want us to respect the science of “Anthropologic climate change” when they won’t respect the science of personhood (babies in utero), or the DNA evidence of a male or female.

Well, there’s another movie I’ve been saved the trouble of seeing.

Actually it’s been over 15 years since I saw a movie in the theater. No loss.

Gen X are the parents. I think the kids today are up to something like Gen Z.

If there's a reaction coming, it won't be with today's kids, but with their children, some as yet unnamed generation to be.

So far though, one generation gets more disciplined and restrained, and the following generation may get looser and more undisciplined, but PC seems to be compatible with both tendencies.

People do outgrow it as they graduate and get older and become parents. And today's new trend is tomorrow's old-fashioned nonsense. Maybe today's young people will go on to laugh at anybody for ever thinking that there were 63 genders.
