Kickbacks to Doctors?
Or worse yet, they knew how addictive it was.
Even worse, did they design it to be addictive?

The company also stresses that its drug is approved by federal regulators and prescribed by doctors; that it accounts for a small portion of opioids sold in the U.S.; and that illicit drugs including heroin and street fentanyl are causing most overdose deaths.

TRUE...and the Feds are making Purdue Pharma the scapegoat because they want to distract from the dumpster fire the FDA and the AMA permitted to go on for decades without action.

The thing is, Oxycontin is a good pain med. It does what it's supposed to do, that is relieves pain. It works. It also can be abused easily. No pain med should be permanent unless it's end of life. Pain meds for long term relief should be alternated so as not to create an addiction.

Oxycontin was a miracle drug for me when i was in the hospital a few months ago after open heart surgery ... however, within just a couple of weeks after coming home, as the pain abated, I STILL had a desire to take the drug even though I know longer really needed it ... I knew exactly what was happening and immediately stopped ... I had about 24 hours worth of withdrawal symptoms, which would have been much worse if I had kept on taking the drug ... Oxycontin is a miracle drug, but a VERY dangerous one ...
