A mass overdose in a California home Saturday morning left one person dead and another 12 hospitalized after police say the victims may have ingested fentanyl, a powerful opioid.
Chico Police Chief Michael OBrien said at a press conference that police received a 911 call from someone inside the residence of a home in the 1100 block of Santana Court about 9 a.m.
One male adult died, and 12 other people were taken to an area hospital for treatment. O Brien said the ages of the victims range from 19 to at least 30.
Eight of the victims were admitted, and of those eight, four were listed as being in critical condition. OBrien emphasized that there is potential for additional fatalities.
Every indication is that this mass overdose incident was caused from the ingestion of some form of fentanyl in combination with another substance, although that is yet to be confirmed.

Part of the manufactured crisis the Democrats are whining about.
Real Party town for sure, Chico State
Nothing to see here, move along...
Why do people keep doing this? Is there a safe “recreational” dosage one can ingest of this evil substance?
You end up getting too much all at once. You know in an instant you did too much but by then it is too late.
Nancy Reagan had it right with Just Say No.
The stuff can be given orally but it can be absorbed through cheek mucosal tissue (transbuccal)...the users can also.heat it and inhale which would a fast high..
Thinning the herd.....or deliberate terrorist activity...good way to off someone who once was your friend but still trusts you. What goes around...comes around. Think of all the C02 and methane given off while decomposing.
Upon arrival, Chico police officers found multiple individuals in what appeared to be life-threatening overdose conditions.
Hmmmmm... I wonder where this Fentynal entered the United States..... No crisis, nothing to see here. Move along....
Through the border with Lithuania! Those d**n Lithuanians are at it again!
However the drug is getting here, there’s an incredible amount of people stupid enough to throw away their lives for it.
They have no way of knowing what the dosage is.
Just gotta hope that the survivors see the light of hope.
To quote Jerri...a Czech taxi driver “People in my country are struggling to stay alive and here you are killing yourself!” Made me put that bottle right down and cry.
Despite my cheezy 1980’s drug ed in school, and being a heavy metal burnout, I was always taught that heroin was a gutter junkie drug and i can honestly say that i never came into contact with it.
Over the past 3 years, at least 3 of my youth acquaintances have died of heroin od’s. Thats 8 children who lost their fathers. And a few facebook friends have posted about losing their friend/brother/cousin because of an OD.
Somehow it became a trendy suburban drug...;.very tragic.
Wait. The city is called “Chico” but the police chief is Irish? Smells like fake news. Were there no qualified illegals who could be handed this job?
Why is it that I keep feeling that Obama, President Xi and the fat boy of North Korea are cheering about the death of America’s people via these drugs?
You are correct. Oddly Fentanyl is a very good drug used properly and legally in hospital settings and even rarely in non hospital settings for terminal control of pain.
The reason for the huge increase in illegal use of fentanyl is its extreme potency. A very small package can be millions of doses for addicts, thus it is much easier to smuggle. In addition it is manufactured by a simple chemical synthesis as opposed to heroin which is derived from the poppy plant.
Many years ago Singapore had one of the worst drug problems in the world. They solved it. If you use drugs you will go to prison for a relative short but very brutal stay. If you sell drugs we will hang you regardless of your nationality. We do this quickly and efficiently. Singapore does not have a drug problem today.
