This is kind of behavior your expect in Compton, not out in the desert.

While Moreno Valley may not be in LA County, it is, arguably, on the eastern edge of the LA metropolitan area. Just east of Moreno Valley are the Badlands, a range of low but rugged hills, beyond which are the San Gorgonio Pass and then the desert.

When the demographics of Compton and South-Central LA began to change in the late 20th Century thanks to legal--and illegal--immigration from south of the border, many residents of these areas moved east and settled in communities like Moreno Valley. They were hoping to get away from the gangs that dominated their former neighborhoods, but it seems they were not successful.

But the “participants” in this riot are Black! Are you saying that Hispanics have driven Blacks out of Compton and out into the High Desert?

According to Area Connect, Compton is about 60% Hispanic and 40% black. I heard from another source that the black population is 30%.

Incidentally, I have an aunt who was from Compton. When she was a teenager, the Long Beach Earthquake hit Compton hard, causing considerable destruction. Fearing aftershocks, she and her family camped out in Santa Ana Canyon, where she ran into my father's brother. Four years later, they married.
