A paint brush licker isn’t necessarily an artist, nor an illuminator of sacred books and scrolls.
Could be she just sneaked into the paint shop after hours and licked the paint brushes.
Or, maybe she whined one time too many to the Mother Superior about wanting to be a painter and had to spend the rest of her days with a paint brush stuck in her mouth as penitence.
