Great post! Escher was like an Einstein of art, truly a treasure of the human race, without parallel.
I was a math and science nerd in school. The first time I saw an Escher, I thought it was one of the most exquisite pieces of art I had ever seen.
Cool.
Fibonacci sequences were used in classical (broad sense) music. A supposed example is Mozarts Sonata no. 1 in C Major: The first movement has two sections of 38 + 62 = 100 measures - as close as possible to the golden ratio.
I was once a massage therapist. I wanted to buy a Golden Ratio bed: They use the golden ratio in the construction geometry for stability and rigidity.
The 16:10 monitors have a more appealing screen format (to me) than the more common 16:9 ratio.
Elsewhere, the good old 3 X 5 card is a close approximation of it.
Yea! Another Fibonacci using fiber artist. I knit a fibonacci sweater. but I was varying both stripes in an increasing order. I love how you did your colors reversing the order.
I’m going to steal your idea for the next afghan I make.
Beautiful scarf. What yarn did you use?
Oh, I’m sorry! It was just a pattern example that I found on the WWW.
I like a lot of yarns from Lion Brand. and I’m currently obsessed with their ‘Mandala’ rolls. I’ve also found that ‘Vanna’s Choice’ yarn has amazing quality for the price and they’ve done it right on the ‘tones’ so you can pretty much put ANY color with the next and they look good.
‘Yarn Bee’ brand at Hobby Lobby has some amazing colors/textures, too.
I’m allergic to some wools, so I usually use a blend if I’m making a scarf for me - or anything else that is close to the skin. ;)
Interesting!
Thanks! I marked that for later. I have a CD Called, ‘Toning’ that I listen to from time to time. Same concept, using different ‘tones’ that effect your brain in a good way.
I will say that when I listen to it, and the dogs are with me, they settle down and get VERY calm, LOL!
It’s amazing how music DOEWS soothe the savage beast! ;)
Clever!
I too have way too much Lion Brand yarn. Actually just too much yarn. What knitter/crocheter doesn’t have too much yarn - it’s practically a requirement or you have to turn in your hooks/needles :-)
I LOVE the yarn “cakes” that so many companies are now producing. I’m working on a 10-stitch afghan right now using a Caron cake in shades of gray and turquoise. All the color changes are being done for me :-)
What a wonderful idea! I just learned to crochet over the holidays...and I am a math geek! As soon as I get good (I’m practicing by making new blankets for the house pets) I’m going to try this!
LOL! I love your practice project! My cats have two crocheted blankets each - one in the wash, one in their respective cozy baskets. ;)
Maybe FR needs a ‘Weekly Crafters Group?’ We already do Gardening and Cooking!
The stuff he's had to do to make those look right is worth reading about as well.
oh - that's a good idea! Otherwise I will be getting "the look" until the blankets come back (they are cats so unforgiving).
I still get mad when someone wants to wash MY Blankie, LOL!
Found another fun idea: Take a pair of dice and select six colors of yarn, similar weights. Assign each a number 1-6.
Roll the dice. One die shows which color to use, the other, how many rows (1-6) to knit or crochet.
Another ‘random’ fun idea.
You may want to find a copy of ‘Knit the Sky.’ Lots of fun ideas in there (that you can apply to crochet as well.) I finally got myself a (used) copy. I love it!
It is a great, relaxing thing to do in the evening after a crazy day at the office. I'm looking forward to getting good enough to make things that I wouldn't be embarrassed to show people!
It takes a while, but as with anything else, the more you ‘practice’ the better you get.
I love learning new stitches, and don’t be afraid to watch a lot of crochet videos - there are a lot of good ones out there!
This guy is Canadian, so has a nice voice to listen to, and he knows his stuff:
