land a spacecraft on the far side, or “dark side,”

Sigh, there is no “dark-side” of the moon. The far side of the moon is the half (actually a bit less than half) that we on earth never see because one side of the moon always is facing the earth. During full moon, as seen from the earth, the far side is indeed the dark side, but during new moon, the far side is completely lit up with sunlight.

After seeing all of the confusion "dark side of the moon" created, I thought of a better, less confusing term: "back side of the moon". :D

No method to recharge batteries.

The dark side of the moon isn’t actually dark. It’s just the side of the moon that faces away from earth.

I’ve got a few pounds of aluminum 1 inch videotape sides (no hubs) and maybe a quad tape or two in storage I liberated from a mass throwaway several years ago.

Totally fake. Filmed on a studio sound stage.

The shadows are all wrong.

Didn’t know they made such things out of aluminum.

Waiting for moon-landing deniers to weigh in on this.

I think they are aluminum.

They’ve been in storage for years.

The PBS station I worked at threw away many, many portable dumpsters to dispose of countless videotapes of analog types.

The pictures coming back are showing an orange tinge. That was the color of the rocks that had water locked into them. Perhaps that is the real reason they choose to land where they did .

I’d be leery of the color cast, since it is easy to alter, as NASA did on receiving the first color images of the Martian surface.
