Not sure I misled anyone yes DHS can accept Donations, a law is needed to force DHS to use it exclusively for the wall. National Park Service received a 7.5 million donation without a law, so precedent is set for an agency to use donated funds. Never told you to STHU, I was responding to Delta 21, he seems a bit upset that this effort exists. This is voluntary and no one is forcing or even politicking for donations. My posts referenced an ability to donate to one campaign but not the wall campaign I texted Gofundme they never responded. I didn’t accuse them of deliberately doing anything, Delta got his knickers in a twist about it though. Gofund me refuses to headline this campaign even though it is one their biggest right now.

I was really discussing with Central_Va, and just cc’d you because I cited your post. I did not intend all those other remarks to be about you.

The only thing I really had an issue with your post, was the apparent conclusion that there was an established mechanism to spend GoFundMe money to build wall. Not yet.

Congress has often authorized the use of donations for specific public purposes, like building the Washington Memorial, or renovating the Statue of Liberty. Non-appropriated funds, like profits from military commissaries, fees in National Parks or other revenues, can only be used for specific authorized uses.

The guy promoting this GoFundMe (Brian Kolfage) found out quickly about this restriction, and got in contact with a Congressman (Warren Davidson) to get authorization. HR 7207 was proposed, but because no Democrats would support it, it was never put forward. Maybe authorization will be rolled into the deal being worked to re-open Government and fund the wall. Let’s hope so.

If you look back far enough, you will see that we used to get along jolly well.

I have been a big proponent of building the wall, and have posted several threads detailing the progress, with maps and pictures. I follow it closely.

Sorry to be a turd in the punch bowl for you on this issue. I am not against it at all. I am such a fan of the wall that I have already made one trip to see some of the construction, and will head to the Rio Grande Valley when work is underway there.

Hopefully, Congress will include the authorization to use donations as part of the whole deal to re-open Government and fund the wall. Often, they don’t really care, because so relatively little is ever raised that way, but on this issue I bet the Dems are gun shy, and would not want to risk embarrassment.

I suspect that there is a lot of theatrics that has to occur to provide many politicians political cover, but behind the scenes they are likely actively horsetrading for their own pet projects. President Trump has a lot of chips to bargain with.

My guess is that the absolute worst case outcome would be $1.3 billion in FY19 as a continuing resolution (the Dem House passed it first day, as their opening gambit), but I expect more.

The Senate had worked up a deal with VP Pence last year for $2.5 billion in each of FY19 and FY20, so at least that much appropriated money is available following the budget rules.

If they step outside the box of the budget rules, allow re-allocation of other appropriated funds, or open up non-appropriated sources; the sky is the limit. They could possibly give President Trump access to $25 billion the next day (highly unlikely).

We have a great guy in there negotiating for us, and man can he handle the pressure (and dish it out). I wish our President all success in his efforts.
