LHTC Media has dropped the Conservative Talk format on “PA Talk” 910 WAVL Apollo/98.7 W254CR Latrobe PA and is currently stunting with a four song loop while promoting the arrival of Jack on Monday, December 31.

The station is stunting with a loop of John Mellencamp’s “Jack and Diane”, Ray Charles “Hit the Road Jack”, AC/DC “Big Jack” and Rolling Stones “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”. New WXJX call letters are in place. The station serves Westmoreland County east of Pittsburgh including Latrobe and Greensburg.

Had heard about this a long time ago...station got a low power FM translator and now wants to take conservative talk off 910 AM, and its new translator at 98.7, and put on "Jack" music format. The FCC states in such a case the stations have to simulcast, so to get music on an FM it must be on the AM too

PA Talk gone

From http://www.pbrtv.com

According to Radio Insight, the “Jack FM” format is on its way to Apollo’s 910 AM which recently became WXJX. The conservative talk format that was held by WAVL has been dropped in favor of stunting with songs with “Jack” in them.

Observer Pat Cloonan notes, “It is emphasizing FM 98.7 in its promos (not a surprise) and the on-the-hour ID has gone from ‘Apollo-Pittsburgh’ to ‘Apollo-Greensburg.’

Wow, this JACK thing is still around? They tried it maybe 10 yrs ago, with the same stupid loop, on WCBS FM here in NY. IFIRC it lasted a few months.

I was driving through Vermont years ago and came across a station that played only approx. 5 seconds of every song. I’m guessing it didn’t catch on.

When I look up “Jack radio” I get this thing about an all-women radio station. Run by and playing only females.

Is that what you’re talking about here ?

Jack is a radio format that could be “we play everything (almost)” to a certain blend of music.
Stations have tried nicknames like Bob, Mike, Hank (country)

One such station, Bob 96.9 Pittsburgh
