You are the second to suggest 395 -> 50 -> 95 south. Although out of the way it may be the safest route.
Not all that far out of the way. Getting to Vegas from the West is not a straight shot. Since you are coming out of South lake anyway it is just a jog to 50 East. Turn right on 95A (South)at Silver Springs and go to Schurz where it meets 95. That will take about 15 miles off of the trip. Fuel up in Hawthorne. Be safe and don’t rush it.
