MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police are searching the man behind a terrifying attack at a subway station in Manhattan, and they're hoping surveillance images and video will lead to an arrest.

It happened just after 7 a.m. Wednesday on the northbound N/Q/R platform at the 34th Street-Herald Square station, and the victim spoke exclusively to Eyewitness News.

Authorities say the 28-year-old woman was heading to work and waiting for a train when she observed two unknown men having an argument.

"I hear some arguing and some yelling between these two guys, and I just went to see what was going on," she said. "I saw a woman holding the other guy back, and I just felt like I had to chime in. You know, there's no need for that."

She attempted to intervene, standing in front of the other man.

"I went to hold the other guy back, just to stop the arguing and the fighting," she said. "And then the other guy broke free from the other lady, and the guy behind me pulled a steel pipe, and boom, just swung and clocked me in the head."

Weapons are not allowed in PRNYC so bums simply carry blunt objects like hammers, wrenches and pipes

I guess the police missed this one with the usual suspects. Wonder if he puchase the pipe or stole it? Will everyone else have to register their piles and have a 3 day cool down period because it’s the pipe not the clubber,

After watching 100lb waifs(every movie), or even 60lb pre-teens(Kickass, Logan) beat up 250lb bruisers, does anyone wonder why a woman could think she could safely intervene between two men?

Men have been beating each other about the head and body for 200,000 years. Our bones are thicker and denser. The reason? We earned it, or at least the ones that lived did. A bunch of early men with weak bones were beaten to death and couldn’t reproduce. It’s why when a man punches a woman in the face, there is a high risk of crushing sinuses, orbital sockets, etc. Sorry ladies, it’s just the way it is. If two men are fighting stay away.

OMGoodness. I have worked in NYC and Philly, where all kinds of stuff goes down in the subway (have since moved to a more normal part of the country). No way on God’s green earth would I go up to people having an argument. You never know who’s got a gun or a knife (or a pipe) or who’s jacked up on drugs or liquor.

Girlfriend must have majored in stupid.

Anybody with a gun there should use it only AFTER he strikes the woman. Giving that perp a warning to stop only kicks the can down the road. Where’s Bernie Goetz when you need him?

#14. Tell DeBlasio to see if his son is in bed.

This guy is toast. Somebody is going to turn him in, probably because he’s a stupid, annoying prick.
