"Naming issue" or not, companies with confidential data on their business computers won't be pleased about this.
Those smart appliances really are ingenious
Some good words here describing M$, I could add a few more but NSFW.
I know a couple hoes down at the trailer park who act like that with the 'shine.
Win 10 is banned from several secured company environments because of its Phone-Home theft of intellectual property, meaning Windows 10 sends things like filenames to Microsoft. Filenames can be confidential, such as “Contract to buy XYZ Corp.docx”
Like trying to turn off logging..........
Linux Mint
Just last night my box happily rebooted itself as it spontaneously updated itself despite all my wishes.
Just got a free used W10 box, my first one. Deleting all the crap on it, about to connect internet and update 8 months worth. Ugh.
Created an offline admin account, deleted the other accounts. Do I have to create an online profile with MS? Will they nag me forever or lock out features if I don’t?
All your data belong to us.
> what is likely to be more cock-up than conspiracy
I’m surprised to see this level of naivete from The Register. They should know better. Big Tech never harvests your data by accident.
Why *anyone* runs Windows is beyond me.
Interesting: Every time I click on Activity History, the Settings app crashes...
Any backdoor “feature” that allows windows to pump out your data can be hijacked by criminals.
If that computer is running Windows 10, it isn’t your computer. It belongs to MS and they’ll do what ever they please with it.
Like not allowing you to log on until they are satisfied it is “updated”.
As I’ve said before, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit FOREVER.
They have to be able to force updates on you at their whim because they don’t intend giving you any choice in the matter when they release the successor to Windows 10. It will be subscription-based, meaning you have to keep paying them for it FOREVER or they’ll disable it. So when this new Windows is ready, they’re going to forcibly update you to it. What they’re doing now is fine-tuning an infrastructure that will give them the ability to control what you think is your operating system so they can maintain absolute control over it. To include crippling or disabling it. Because there’s no point having a subscription system if they can’t deny you use of the operating system for non-payment.
If you didn’t know, you don’t own the copy of Windows you’re running. Neither did you own the MS-DOS you used for that matter. M$ has never sold an operating system, they only licensed its use. Check the EULA you agreed to when you initialized the OS. To them, charging rent for the continued use of “their” OS is just a logical extension of that principle because it assures them of a steady stream of income.
