This generation no more created the modern world than it owned slaves. Americans don’t own the glory of their ancestors, nor does it share their guilt. As a nation of individuals, we stand or fall on our own merit, or lack of it.Taking credit or blame for something you didn’t do is collectivist hogwash.

Honoring your heritage is what the Fifth Commandment's context looks towards. Not honoring those who have gone before to enable you to have the opportunity to live a better life, is outrageous ingratitude.

Communities, tribes & nations, are multi-generational continuums. There is hubris, the false pride that goes before a fall, and their is inspiration & emulation of role models, which are important in the upward striving of every people.

No generation removed from whatever their parents generation perpetrated should ever have to share the guilt. Unless it repeats yet.
