In these times I could go for the idea of a ‘Devils Island’ type of life sentence. The island needs to be large enough to support the inhabitants via farming. Drop the newly convicted felon into the water about a hundred yards offshore with a backpack of food and tools. Smear chum on his trousers and after he hits the water, remind him that sharks are active in this area.
