Yeo it seems that “arthouse” type movies, which few have seen, have often been winners or nominees.
This is part of the problem with the ratings for the Oscars. How many people want to watch an awards show, which is handing out awards for movies most of us have not seen?
Golden Globes awards is akin to winning an award for the best looking trash can in the neighborhood.
modern movies are total crap
the best entertainment has moved to streaming
right now, the two best streaming series with new episodes are the second season of amazon’s “The Amazing Mrs. Maisel” and netflix’s “Maniac”, which seems to be badly misnamed, as it’s an exploration of the human brain and reality via intrusion and alteration with a combination of psychoactive drugs and digital access with an AI computer. It’s set in a slightly alternate earth universe that’s both advanced and retro at the same time, where the computer hardware technology is from our 70’s and 80’s, yet with advanced AI programming ... brilliant characterizations, dialog, and human behavior ... this is must see TV ...
Hollywood is only interested in honoring popular movies to make a political statement. Crazy Rich Asians could be nominated too.
It was.
I still have to laugh at the hype over Black Panther. Dont get me wrong I love science fiction/fantasy/superhero movies, and after seeing it my reaction was Well, that was pretty good, but critic after critic couldnt stop gushing over it, calling it one of the most important films of our generation, and stating that it had taken superhero films to a new level, now making them legitimate.
Please. It was a decent addition to the MCU franchise, nothing more. I can easily name half a dozen MCU films I enjoyed more.
Ill have to check out Maniac. Thanks for the tip.
Gonna steal that line if don't mind. Couldn't say it any better!
I felt the same way. It was good but not award worthy.
btw, the first and second episodes (esp. the first) are so packed with characters, relationships, events, scenes, places, insanity (literally), etc., both subtle and not subtle, that we ended up watching both episodes 3 times before proceeding further ... each time we picked up subtleties ...
