What utter BS. No film I’ve ever watch truly depicts the meaning of being alive in the midwest in that time. It is accurate and brings back all the good memories of what things were like then. ( ... and I miss those things now).
As I understand it. A Christmas Story was penned by a Hillsdale graduate. :-)
Well said. Bravo
So, how long did it take your tongue to heal?

Mmmm stiwww huwww wu wwwk (translation: it still hurts to talk)
"Thankfully, some things like Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, and the movie "A Christmas Story" haven't yet been banned."
There are actually elements of the film that span everything from the Depression to the early 50’s. A lot of timeline issues can be easily spotted (cars that weren’t manufactured until after Little Orphan Annie left the airwaves, etc.) That may be deliberate to broaden the appeal and avoid pinning the story to any specific year.
The director, the late Bob Clark, wanted to make this film but could not get funding. A studio wanted him to direct a movie that he really wanted no part of. He made a deal. I’ll make your movie if you make mine. They accepted, and A Christmas Story was greenlighted.
The other film that he did not want to direct was Porky’s.
Bob Clark, by the way, killed by an illegal immigrant who was driving drunk.
If he wanted a Barbie Doll instead, she would have thought it was the greatest movie, ever.
I misspoke. Porkys II was the film Clark wanted to avoid.
Jean Shepherd himself said it was a patchwork of events not set in any specific year.
That said, if one wants to analyze it in detail, Wizard of Oz characters appear in the shopping scenes and the movie was released in the summer of 1939, so it is unlikely to have been prior than that. Similarly, Ovaltine dropped their sponsorship of the Little Orphan Annie radio show in early 1940. 1939 would have been the last Christmas they ran ads on the show.
Leftists hate everything.
That may be true, but I also happen not to like ‘A Christmas Story’. To me, it’s a dumb film. Everyone Else in my family likes it, but not me. And I am NOT a liberal.
As well as he should have, it was awful, nothing like the first one, which is a classic.
BTW his wife, Susan Clark, played "Cherry Forever" in the first Porky's.
Truly LOL
Probably the best, most realistic portrayal of Christmas ever for me. This woman is doing the typical SJW thing of taking all the anger and hatred of American traditions and using them as a filter in which to view life. Making fun of people of color? Missed that part. A mom who sacrificed for her family? Geez sounds like every mother I knew during the 50-60’s. Bullies? Yeah they existed and you dealt with them and grew stronger. Kids dealing with pain and disappointment? Back before everyone got a trophy it was called character building. Wanting that one special gift, and getting it? Well that’s just wrong isn’t it? I actually had the BB gun moment on my 10th birthday. I wanted one, my mom didn’t think I should have one, but dad bought it and hid from my mom. After opening my other gifts he told me there was one more behind the couch. My mom wasn’t happy. I was ecstatic. I guess this woman has never had such an experience. How sad. I’ll keep watching CS and she can keep whining about how horrible everything good in America is.
It’s a wretched movie. I don’t watch it. Its fans are free to do as they please; in doing so they neither break my leg nor pick my pocket.
Darren McGavin will always be Kolchak, The Night Stalker, to me.
Or the DI in "Tribes".

I don’t like it, either. But whatever: the world is full of movies I don’t like.
Hi there. My name is Gwynn Watkins and I hate Christmas. I also hate people who like Christmas in any way, shape or form and it is my mission in life to ruin Christmas for them.
Therefore, let me start with this "Christmas Story" movie which I hate and loathe. I do not think that enough people are sufficiently offended by this movie. Therefore, I am going to write this article to point out the various reasons why everybody should be offended and thereby hate this movie and by extension, come to hate Christmas overall.
Please read this article and be enlightened. While you are reading, I am going to grab my wire cutters and resume knocking over Christmas trees and cutting Christmas light wires.
