FULL TITLE: 'I owe my life to that dog': Husky sniffs out her owner's ovarian cancer THREE TIMES after doctors dismissed her pain as a cyst

A former grant writer credits her dog for saving her life after the pooch sniffed out her cancer three times.

Stephanie Herfel, 52, had been experiencing severe discomfort in her abdomen, which her doctor dismissed as a cyst.

Sent home with painkillers, Mrs Herfel made an appointment to see a gynaecologist when her Siberian Husky Sierra sniffed at her lower abdomen before running away and curling up in the wardrobe.

Mrs Herfel was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer just weeks later on November 11, 2013.

After undergoing a full hysterectomy, chemotherapy and having her spleen removed, Mrs Herfel thought she was disease-free until Sierra sniffed at her again in 2015 and 2016 - tests later revealed her cancer had returned both times.

Now free of the disease, Mrs Herfel believes she would not be here if it was not for Sierra. 'I owe my life to that dog,' she said. 'She's really been a godsend to me.'

The UK’s NHS is just like their justice system. Read the horror stories in the Daily Mail.

my first thought. Man, the NHS is an absolute disaster. Story after story of medical incompetence and bureaucratic ineptitude.

But hey, it’s “free”!

Not for themselves- they want to keep all the good doctors and drugs to themselves and give the rest of us the crap.

What must the world be like to a creture with the sensitivity to detect things like cancer with their nose? If we had such olfactory strength, would our eyes even matter much? Sometimes I wonder how mankind survived. Our senses are weak compared to most animals, we're weak (get in a fight with a raccoon if you don't believe me. If you survive with your face still attached, you'll be lucky), slow, and not especially agile. I mean, look at a simple squirrel. They can leap well over their own height, run along the top of a fence and grab onto a tree and scamper up it in seconds. It's the sort of thing we fantasize that elite ninjas could do after years and years of training, and every squirrel does it as just part of their day.

But with a human brain and an opposable thumb, who needs to be the fastest, strongest, most agile creature in the jungle? An arrow or a spear makes a great equalizer.

Yes, I read also elsewhere and I believe it’s true that animals are able to sense serious diseases.

My cat licks my bad knee. She’s a lot more sympathetic than the doctors who refuse to fix it.

“Story after story of medical incompetence and bureaucratic ineptitude.”

Basically the same thing happened to my wife, HERE. Symptomatic signs and suggestive labs ignored, cancer progressed to metastasis, too late for treatment, died three months ago.

Meow

I love dogs also; but how many cats have you read about who have turned on their master and killed them?

Thank you, sir. I’ve had a few months to deal with it, but looking toward the future is scary .
