When deputies arrived on scene, Walmart employees told them there were two young girls who were reportedly found "camping" inside the store's clothing section and when approached the girls, they left on foot. Investigators said one of the girls left a cell phone behind, which led deputies to one of the mothers. Deputies learned the girls were 10-year-old and were taking part in a challenge posted to social media where people allegedly sleep inside large stores. Sheriff Kim Cole said when the mother of one of the girls, who is the one who allegedly took them to the store around 2 a.m., returned to meet with the deputies, heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine were found on her.

One mother a meth head. Odds are, so is the other mother.

At least the girls were left in a nice warm building rather than dumped on the side of a snow covered road.

My 10 year-old self would have found camping in WalMart the coolest thing in the world. A meth-head mom, not so much.

In my neck of the woods (and I’m sure elsewhere), public libraries are used for that purpose. Mothers drop their kids off, then go wandering around town until closing time.

I would think libraries would be a sketchy proposition considering the homeless use ‘em as hangouts.

Target generally isn’t open 24 hours.

Sketchy, indeed. But the mothers who use libraries to warehouse their kids don’t really care. Those moms aren’t exactly the caring types.

What’s interesting is how the library workers are caught in the middle. I know a few, and they are Social Justice Warrior types. So they are hesitant to call the police...or enforce rules of any kind.

Another reason we can’t have nice things.

That would seem to be a plus,if you could get locked in all night. A home improvement store might be the better choice for in-store camping, lots of big lumber racks and such to exploit and most of them at least sell snacks so - free food ;-)

If they were sleeping rough on the floor, imagine what they’re breathing in.

our library has turned in to a zoo/ daycare center. It’s too bad as it used to be usable.

If I correctly recall the article about the social-media fad of spending the night in stores, it was generally in stores that were open, such as Walmart.

Same here, when libraries became video rental stores they became zoos.

Whatever happened to good clean fun...egging houses, rolling people’s trees with TP, throwing snowballs at cars, tossing a lit M-80 in a mailbox, putting a paper bag full of poop on a front porch, lighting it on fire, ringing the door bell and running....all without the assistance of a cellphone.

Ahh...the good old days.

Any mother who is willing to dump her kids off for them to be watched free of charge by strangers, does not care what happens to them.

Until it’s time to file a lawsuit because they got harmed due to her negligence.

Ours got rid of almost all of those stupid old books they had accumulated over the last century, which freed up a little space for a few newer books about empowering anybody but white guys, and a whole lotta space to accommodate the "urban" free WiFi/internet crowd.

During a weekday, it's sort of like an unsecured psych unit.

If I remember correctly, the original M-80 was equal to a quarter of a stick of dynamite. I know it was a big boom and would blow a large rock way up in the air.

It doesn’t make sense considering the kids can just walk out of the library at any time.
