The Daily Mail uses the word “struthious” in the last paragraph. I looked it up in Dictionary, and it is a real word, evidently, but I still don’t see how it fits.

struthious: “resembling or related to the ostriches or other ratite birds.”

Hmmm.

I think the context of the last paragraph was that the defendants had their 'heads in the sand'.

“Struthious”. Could they possibly mean the offending officers were like ostriches with their heads in the sand? Not able to see what was in front of their eyes?
