The clip flittered out on Twitter on Saturday evening, and perhaps best summed up the conundrum facing USC athletic director Lynn Swann the next few weeks. A group of UCLA fans, sounding drunk on a bit more than an upset victory, began a sing-song chant that will send chills through the spines of USC administrators: “Keep Clay Helton, clap clap, clap clap clap. Keep Clay Helton…” That’s the latest sign of how much things have gone off the rails for the Trojans, who managed to somehow thrust the Los Angeles recruiting momentum cross town to Chip Kelly and 3-8 UCLA. USC’s 34-27 loss to the Bruins has turned the Trojans from unwatchable to untenable.

I must admit I missed all the action Saturday as I took the kids to see a K-Pop concert in Philadelphia. Thankfully I was in the Phila area for only one night. The family stopped in DC on the way back home and Buckeye nation was in force in DC Saturday night. Thankfully for them, the Buckeyes survived a scare at Maryland and Meyer avoided a trip to the hospital. If Harbaugh does not send Meyer to the ICU this coming week then he should pack up and coach the J-E-T-S. Meet your ACC Coastal DivisionClemson Sacrifice Pittsburgh. RIP WVU playoff hopes. It is Oklahoma or bust for the Big 12 = 10. Give credit to the Pokes after emptying the tank in Bedlam to not give up and come from behind to beat the Mountaineers. I imagine being coached by Nick Saban is tough but he is going to go Captain Bligh in the lead up to the Iron Bowl as The Citadel managed to go into halftime tied at 10. 'Bama must of ingested Nick Saban Special Rat Poison Blend. Thankfully an antidote was administered during halftime. I wonder how the denigrates who bet halftime scores and spreads did in that game. Looks like it s a forgone conclusion that Notre Dame will be in the playoff. The Irish easily handled Syracuse and their final opponent USC has imploded. UCF has their most impressive win manhandling Cincinnati. RIP Auburn Diehard Tammy From Clanton and her grandchild. I remember her calls about wanting to deny sex to her 'Bama husband. Tammy now is truly a War Eagle soaring in heaven

It’s pretty common knowledge in USC circles ( and beyond) that any coach who does not beat UCLA or ND in any given season is in trouble. Lose to both and you are gone. After Helton loses to ND he will be gone.

Never should have passed on Coach O.

USC should keep Clay Helton because the performance of his teams fits in with USC’s new vision and mission.

Founded by Methodists, USC was a bastion of academic conservatism for much of the twentieth century. But it is increasingly seeing itself as a Pacific Rim institution with a diverse and international faculty and student body and a globalist outlook.

The football team and the subculture that support it—the Trojan Marching Band, Traveler the horse, the Song Girls, the Troy Week rally, etc.—are an impediment to this vision because football is a parochial and uniquely American sport that is unknown across much of the globe. So marginalizing the football team is necessary for USC in its quest to become a truly global institution.

Not to worry. The Sunday boycott only helps Friday night and Saturday.

It would have been a black Saturday in Columbus.

RIP WVU playoff hopes.

Gross negligence on part of the officials for missing the gross interference on the last play of the game.

Certainly hope it's not as bleak a picture as you paint it.

Looking ahead to next Saturday's game with the Irish, I find I'm well-prepared: my first Notre Dame game as a freshman in 1966 ended 51-0. That's the one where Coach John McKay's entire post-game speech to his team famously was, "Those who need showers, take them."

The Citadel only made two passing attempts in thier game against Alabama. Both failed. Don’t know if that is thier playing style or if it was an attempt to control the ball. They were tied at the half but got blown out in the second half. The game was on the SEC network so I could not get it here in the Northeast.

Heard how Wazzu QB Gardner Minshew ended up in Pullman. Coach Leach knew that Minshew had been offered a scholarship from Alabama. Leach called up Minshew and asked him if he wanted to be a backup at Alabama or lead the nation in passing. It was an easy decision.
