Watch out for ASU and Herm Edwards closing fast from the bottom soon!
Unless there is a major upset the next two weeks, this list will likely not change for the #1 to #4.
What’s up with Wazzu ?............
After their performance against Okie State I would have expected Oklahoma to slide a spot or two.
UGA’s fate is in their own hands. If they beat Alabama in the SEC championship, they will be in the playoffs.
But, what happens if UGA barely beats Bama (say on a last second field goal). Will they decide to put both UGA in the playoffs? Who would they leave out? Or would they leave UGA out, even though they (barely) beat Bama?
I just don’t see anyone, including UGA, beating Alabama this year.
Or, Alabama handedly beats Georgia, like all the other teams this year.
Then no dilemma.
Roll Tide, Roll!
Beyond the playoffs, here are the NY6 competitors.
Michigan plays Ohio on Nov. 24th. Obviously that's a must-win for Michigan to stay in the Top 4.
UGA still has to beat Georgia Tech. I am a Georgia fan, but Tech lives for this game, sometimes being the spoiler for UGA’s hopes.
When #10 beats #4 in the rivalry of all rivalries..., #10 will be moved to #2 by the media, because Ohio State never beats Michigan, and it will be the greatest football accomplishment since Woody Hayes won college football’s golden gloves award.
Same when Auburn plays Alabama.
If they beat Bama they’re in or the playoff system loses all credibility. Oh wait that’s right we’re talking about special Saban exemption where one loss is always waved.
Yes, and historically Auburn is usually way better than Georgia Tech. That makes losing to Georgia Tech so much worse.
I was told once that Auburn stands for Alabama Usually Beats Us ‘Round November.
Syracuse could spoil ND’s run, it will be up to the ND defense to win the game.
Then the committee will finally realize we need an 8, 12, or 16 team playoff. Four is just not enough.
I dunno. Kirby Smart (Georgia's HC) probably spent much of the spring and summer thinking about the 2nd half of the natty and what he'd do to stop Bama if he faced them again. How do I know this?
Remember the SEC Championship games of 2008 and 2009 where Bama and Florida played each other, both times being #1 vs. #2? In 2008 Bama was in the lead in the 4th quarter but the Florida Tebows came back from behind and won. Then the next year Bama shut down Florida with a game plan to keep Tebow from doing his magic and dominated the whole game.
After the 2009 game Saban admitted that he and Smart (then Bama's defensive coordinator) had Florida and Tebow in mind during the spring and summer drills of 2009, even though Florida wasn't on the schedule, because they didn't like losing to Florida in 2008. Don't be surprised if Kirby Smart has made sure Georgia won't be surprised by Tua again in the upcoming SEC championship game like they were in the 2nd half almost a year ago in the natty. I'm picking Bama to win, but Georgia to make them earn it.
Here’s how good Alabama is: I hope Notre Dame stays #3. If they get crushed 77-0, everyone will say they they never belonged there, because their schedule was so weak, despite #4 Michigan, #13 Syracuse, #22 Northwestern, Pitt, Navy, etc. It’s actually a schedule stronger than Michigan and comparable to Clemson. (They also played Florida State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest in common.) The only teams that weren’t Big Five teams were Navy (8-2?) and Ball State.
But let’s face it: they beat Vanderbilt by 5 at home. They’re good, but they’re not escape Alabama without losing 77-0 good.
