Every crossing we made went from Norfolk to Bermuda, to the Azores, to Rota, Spain, refueling at each stop.
Coming from that direction, we would always refuel at Rota, Azores, Bermuda, then Norfolk.
For China, the Azores is definitely a strategic position.

The Azores is one of our major refueling depots for US Navy ships crossing the Atlantic.
