Disney Talking ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Reboot With ‘Deadpool’ Scribes Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick
Deadline ^ | october 23, 2018 | Mike Fleming Jr.

Disney is exploring a reboot of its billion dollar Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The studio has met with the writing team of Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and they are in early talks to write the script. Reese & Wernick are the writers behind the first two Deadpool blockbusters, and before that wrote Zombieland and its sequel, and 6 Underground, the action film that Michael Bay is directing for Netflix with Ryan Reynolds starring.

Jerry Bruckheimer will continue to captain the ship as producer on Pirates of the Caribbean, but at this point it is too early to say who else might be back and that includes Johnny Depp, who has channeled Rolling Stones’ rogue Keith Richard in playing Jack Sparrow through the first five films. It is not surprising the studio will try to breathe new pirate life into the franchise, as the first five films grossed north of $4.5 billion over 14 years.

WME reps Wernick & Reese.

Here’s a suggestion. Remove all the ghosts, and grotesques and return it to a pirate story. Leave the supernatural stuff in the Haunted Mansion.

There is only one actor that could play the part of a pirate Errol Flynn.

Movies based on Disneyland rides, comic books or video games do not interest me all that much.

Milk it til it’s dry, beat the dead horse.

The original was a surprise out of left field, under the radar screen.

That’s what probably allowed it’s quirky fun clever originality.

Hollywood hasn’t had an original idea in 30 years. And every sequel, prequel, spinoff and knock-off they have made since sucks eggs.

No more of my money. There’s a forest path or beach that needs walking on.

“Disney Talking ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Reboot”

Reboot a movie whose last release is barely few years old?

They do know that Depp still makes appearances to sick kids as Jack Sparrow because they love the series as it is now?

How about a movie from the It’s A Small World ride?

Only the little dolls have machine guns and fight Godzilla.

Exactly. As a pirate story is was great fun. When it turned into a bunch of supernatural nonsense, it became boring.

Well, to be fair, at least the first two sequels dealt with a ghost ship, which actually DOES work in pirate mythos even when it had supernatural elements.
