Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. The only reason Griner and other of her ilk earned a paycheck playing in the NBA is because the NBA subsidies it, including forcing broadcast partners to televise the games. You might be the best woman's player but there is zero chance of you playing against men. A NBA team playing $125 K for an elite 5 star prospect is a bargain. I am still waiting for the lawsuit of WNBA players claiming they deserve equal salaries to the men because they do "the same work".

Hard to imagine anyone paying to see the WNBA.

Even my daughter, who is a college athlete, can’t stand watching women’s sports on TV. Ms. Griner should consider herself blessed for getting paid to play basketball AT ALL!

Nobody wants to see the crappy version of basketball these ladies play. It can be seen by the attendance at their games.

I still say I could find 5 guys in my neighborhood who are in their 30’s and 40’s and go beat a WNBA team.

If a kid who is talented and wants to play basketball wants to sign-up with a minor league team instead of enrolling in a university and pretending to be a student, I don’t have any problem with that. Seems much more honest.

It’s kind of a dick job. Regular G league folks make like $35K, now all of a sudden they want to take high school kids and pay them $125K. That is a slap in the face.

[ Brittney Griner ]

I don’t know what a Brittney Griner is. Sounds like a food processor.

I don’t know much about this topic. Does the G-league or NBA not allow elite prospects if they are female? That certainly sounds like discrimination.

Or is the problem that all those who qualify as elite at the moment (and past) are male? If this is the issue, I’ll join her in the fight if she’ll fight for my rights too. I’m an overweight 5’8” white guy in my 50s, but I want my $125k if we can get them to drop (or redefine) the “elite” part of the deal.

I’m also much better if I can use a smaller ball so maybe we can get the G-league to adopt the WNBA equipment. And if we can get the G-league to switch to a bocce field with bocce equipment and rules I bet I can compete with LeBron - I want my max contract so let’s do it.

I'm confused. The article mentions the "NBA's" offer, but the story is all about WNBA players. And if the NBA or WNBA is making this offer to women, why not to men?

At any rate, I think one-and-done is a travesty of college athletics, so I think the offer of a minor league pro contract as an alternative is an improvement over the status quo.

She’s lucky she got anything. Who wants to buy a ticket to watch a bunch of lesbians run around on the court like mediocre male players?

This is great. (Not for Kentucky or Duke) It gives young men a chance to make some money out of high school and a lot of them need it.

The one and done rules prevented an athelete from getting a job. It was stupid. The kids had no interest in college.

There is no market for women’s basketball. Women should be paid the same anyway?

The WNBA draws a small fraction of the TV audience the NBA does. Comparing salaries in the NBA and WNBA is like comparing apples to oranges.

Griner should be more worried about the WNBA being taken over by transvestites. How long before the WNBA is a biologically male dominated league.

When will a guy who did not make the cut in NBA declare himself a “woman” and play in the wbna?
