I am of the opinion that EVERY violent felon should have their DNA taken and recorded post conviction. This would serve to simplify cold case files buy facilitating DNA searches.

By the time most criminals see a conviction, they have already committed several crimes.

That’s been happening for a long time. Some have been linked to crimes (sexual assault, for example) even while they’re in prison for other crimes.

In Alaska, every arrestee is required to be DNA'd when being booked in for any felony, any misdemeanor crime of violence or any misdemeanor DV crime unless there is already a DNA profile on record. Most states have similar laws.
