These chips and the claims being made on Bloomberg are BOGUS. . . they don't exist. All of the sources are ANONYMOUS and not a single source from any other news organization has been able to validate anything about the Supermicro compromised motherboards and NOT A SINGLE EXAMPLE from the THOUSANDS of motherboards in use has been found. NONE, ZIP, NIL. The whole thing makes zero sense as such an added chip would stand out like a big red flag on even a cursory quality control scan. . . causing the entire run of motherboards to be discarded. Apple's goods, actually like Supermicro's are designed in California, and undergo EXTREME vetting by Apple. They are computer Quality Control checked against a reference model, and also checked electronically. Apple's logic boards, like the Supermicro motherboards, are multilayer sandwiches of circuitry, which would require major re-engineering from the ground up, something that takes months, to add even one minor component, much less a component with multiple capabilities. It is just not possible to do without it being noticed, or compromising the function of the device. Apple has complete control of their entire widget. . . and Apple is responsible for QC.

Thanks so very much Swordmaker. I had read something very similar on a blog of very savvy tech folks. I also spoke to our own Millennial IT person at work (and he is one smart guy). He used to work for Apple. He said pretty much the same thing you did.

I wonder if these people are offended by my addressing a pet as "good boy" or "good girl". After all, why should I presume the pet's "gender" matches its anatomy?

In my experience, they ALWAYS correct me when I get the sex of their dog wrong. "He's a handsome fella" is answered with "She sure is." (I assume all dogs are male and all cats are female. Call me sexist.)

We'll see how long that lasts.
