People working in grizzly country should be armed or protected by armed hunters.

I was also comfortable with my little .380 in bear country.

(It was perfect for shooting the other other guy in the leg so I could get away.)

agreed; just a month ago I was on a guided tour outside Hoonah, Alaska, and a tribal hunter was assigned to our group...they are highly reluctant to shoot a bear, and none of us wanted to see that happen; a moot point, as bears were nowhere to be seen...

I’ve worked on Admiralty Island out in the woods. We had a professional Indian bear guide with a rifle, we all had spray, and most of us were armed as well.

The guide was more concerned about the wild dogs, and shot two. I could never tell if he was being honest or just messing me us.

“You smell that?”
“Huh?”
“Bear. Moving behind that ridge to get downwind of us.”

I knew a guy who owned a gold mine in Alaska. He carried a .44 magnum with him everywhere.
