Dogs excel at jobs, and I used to think they were very intelligent, but a lot of this seems to be instincts and aptitudes bred into them by humans. Also, I think dogs appear to be more intelligent to humans because dogs are more social (in nature they work in packs, and have a social order) than cats and seem to communicate or emote a lot more than they do. But both of these are traits, not intelligence, in my opinion. I see dogs repeat things a lot until they get something good with a lot of trail and error and still not always learning from it until there is more reinforcement, where as I see cats really working things out with problem solving and once they pick up new information or a new skill, they’ve got it.
