When I was in school it was considered an honor to be chosen to raise and lower the flag before and after school.
Not everyone got the chance. At my grade school the Safety Patrol raised and lowered the flag every day and the captain and the Deputy did the honors.
In sixth grade I was the Captain so I had the honor to perform flag duties for the entire school year.
