Oh, don't worry about those sonic booms. There's only a 37% chance it will trigger a major earthquake.

” got up to speeds of Mach 7”

Or, did they get the wind tunnel up to Mach 7?

At MACH 7 one tiny input in the flight controls could disintegrate the entire plane. This thing better have one heck of a computer flying controlling it.

Darn. We need more Chinese here like we need more fleas, ticks, and lice. How many neighborhoods must they take over and ghettoize?

Well by seventy-six we’ll be A.O.K.

2 hours flight time plus an hour to board plus 4 hours taxiing from and to the gate. Plus please arrive 3 hours prior to departure time.

If a plane could actually make it up to a speed of Mach 36 it could fly from China to California in just 14 minutes.

...

And glowing red hot when it lands.

Where is that d$%^%^ copy editor? Once upon a time FAST COMPANY magazine had some quality, now it has quality problem issues!

That’s way past Mach 5, which NASA defines as five times faster than the speed of sound

Yeah, it is 'ONLY' NASA that defines Mach 5 as 5x of sound, not anybody else! Grrr!

On a related point, Mach 5 is the bottom limit of what is generally referred to as the hypersonic speed range, so in other words Mach 5 is seriously fast! Anybody care to wager what tasks the PRC is running on their world speed record (former) computer? It is not just for coal pollution tracking!

Commercial aircraft are of a size, dimension and speed capability that barely create market viability.
Faster means exponential ticket price rise.
Concorde worked, it just wasn’t economical nor an efficient people mover.

The first ones will be military of course; the civilian models come after the USA is nuked into surrender by weapons there is no defense against.

And private passengers will take the G forces just fine too. I doubt it.
