“Life insurance policies usually won’t pay out for suicides.”


Yeah, they will - if 2 or 3 years have gone by since they were taken out. By that time, beneficiaries can credibly argue that there was a mental illness that came up in the meantime which caused the act, and that there was no fraud.

It’d be kind of funny (or, maybe, ironic) if only 1 year and 364 days had gone by....

That happened.

A guy knew he was going to kill himself and took out a policy. He waited two years and did it. The problem was he did it two years from when he signed up for it and didn’t wait to have policy in hand. He was off by seven days. No payout.
