One of David Hockney's famous "pool paintings" is coming to auction and is expected to sell in the $80 million range, easily breaking the record for a work by a living artist sold at auction.
The British artist's "Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)," to be auctioned at Christie's in November, is considered one of his premier works. Christie's has estimated the work at about $80 million, but says it expects it to sell for more.
The previous record for a work by a living artist was set by Jeff Koons' "Balloon Dog," which sold for $58.4 million in 2013.

Should be called “David Spade Contemplating Taking a Dip”.
Well, I guess I could make payments if they'd cover the loan.
I mock, but it's a pretty good painting. I'd pay to see it.
Suckers! I bought this "pool painting" for $6.
High end art auctions are a great means of money laundering.
Based on the supereme anatomically accurate way the bulldog is holding the cue, I think that one might be a DaVinci. you should have an expert check it.
$80 million for what is really gay propaganda?
No thanks.
Not exactly what I would call a work of art for all the ages to come.
You should get at least $8 million for the titling rights.
Perfect!
Crap. My sister paints better than that!
I’ve never heard of David Hockney. This painting is supposed to be up there with Mona Lisa, The Birth of Venus etc? What’s so special about it? I don’t understand.
Looking over his body of work I am pretty sure I can paint just as well so I better get busy.
Supposedly this painting is revered for his rendering of moving water, I’ve seen much better. I suspect the brouhaha has more to do with he wanna queen art professor in the 60s. so that means he must be courageous or something.
Way overpriced art.
It looks like paint by numbers. Seriously, my mother in-law is a better artist than this guy. She started painting about 10 years ago at age 65.
The landscape background is nice. The man-on-man-sex-about-to-happen foreground I could skip.
$20 (for the frame)
Queer art professor paints his boy friend. Millions must be coughed up.to own this epic ‘art’
Some people have got to paint and draw
Harry had to work in clay and stone
Like the waves coming to the shore
It was in his blood and in his bones
Ignored by all the trendy boys in London and in Leeds
He might as well have been making toys or strings of beads
He could not be in the gallery
And then you get an artist says he doesn't want to paint at all
He takes an empty canvas and sticks it on the wall
The birds of a feather all the phonies and all of the fakes
While the dealers they get together
And they decide who gets the breaks
And who's going to be in the gallery
No lies he wouldn't compromise
No junk no bits of string
And all the lies we subsidize
That just don't mean a thing
I've got to say he passed away in obscurity
And now all the vultures are coming down from the tree
So he's going to be in the gallery.
Looks like my daughters “Sims” game.
We think alike. I’ll take dogs playing billiards over that dismal dreck of Hocker anyday !!
I would much rather have your painting than the one at auction.
What ? Eighty million my butt! This masterpiece is easily worth three or four times that .... closer to 500 million!
