Let's think about the basis for RR's recommendation that JC be fired. First, I don't think he actually said he should be fired. He said that JC had violated FBI standards. How did he violate those standards? By making judgments about the prosecution of Hillary that weren't his to make. By releasing information about the Hillary emails just before an election that impacted the election. JC's actions had nothing to do with Trump, JC was unfair to Hillary! Some of the violations that RR cited in his detailed memo would apply equally to Mueller if Mueller tried to impact the election or pursue prosecution of Trump in the time remaining before the midterms. So that is an interesting aspect of the RR memo. But the real reason RR wanted JC to be fired was so that he could name Mueller as special counsel. That was the game plan all along, they just had to engineer a way to make it happen. Simple as that.
Yes, what you wrote, that was all in the body of RR’s memo to Sessions but his recommendation was to replace Comey.
The final paragraph:
“The FBI is unlikely to regain public and congressional trust until it has a Director who understands the gravity of the mistakes and pledges never to repeat them. Having refused to admit his errors, the Director cannot be expected to implement the necessary corrective actions.”
In DC Speak, the meaning is clear, Comey needs to be fired because he refuses to admit his errors.
Since that letter, RR has done what he originally set out to do which is to bring in Mueller to bring down Trump.
HRC hated Comey, blamed him for her election loss. She wanted someone like Mueller to be brought in who would craft a Watergate-type break-in scenario of DNC computers and in so doing make Trump to be like Nixon, coverup, obstruction of justice, Saturday Night Massacre, etc.
My opinion?
The appointment of [RR] was like sending a german short-hair pointer out in the field to flush birds. Both POTUS and ]Sessions[ wanted to see what flew. [RR] used his appointment (Senate confirmation vote!) to further the interests of the Derps instead of his position’s benefactor (Donaldus Magnus). Comey out, Mueller in. The Administration now new which direction the birds would flush from.
