Ive been told that the most sensitive part of a shark is the tip of its snout and that landing a hard blow there should break its hold, too. I had always heard that too - now, I read that a 61 year old man successfully escaped by punching a shark's gills...
My technique has been to stay dry. Sharks only attack when you're wet. :) :P

Ive always suggested to not go in past your ankles.
This guy was close to shore, but in 8 - 10 deep water.
