Ten takeaways from a substantive and occasionally stunning weekend in college football: 1) Here lies the remains of Power Five football in the state of Florida. Time of expiration: 10:09 p.m. EDT. That’s when Florida completed its dismal home loss to perennial foil Kentucky — yes, Kentucky, which hadn’t beaten the Gators since 1986. The Wildcats outplayed Florida in The Swamp all night, and for once didn’t self-destruct with a chance to beat the Gators in hand.

Dan Mullen and Galen Hall have something in common: they coached Gators teams that lost to Kentucky. Is there now a FireTaggart.com website? The 'Noles won but they looked awful. Williams–Brice Stadium became the largest Chick Fil A in the world as the 'Dawgs took the "Eat Mor Chikin" to heart. Since Rutgers married the now Big 10-14 in a gold digger match THE Ohio State University has beaten Rutgers by a combined score of 271 - 27. Only once has THE Ohio State University failed to score 50 points on Rutgers; they only scored 49. How about the Herm "WE Play to Win the Game" Edwards!!! Everyone mocked the Sun Devils hiring him. Well the Sun Devils beat Sparty at Tempe. In the game of the year so far in 2018. Jimbo $$$$ Fisher almost pulled off the upset of his old nemesis. The Aggies showed a lot of resilience. I thought when the backup fumbled the football and Clemson scored on the subsequent drive that would be a back breaker. I am sure under Sumlin that would be true but not under Jimbo. speaking of Sumlin is there a #FireSumlin twitter topic?

Aggies gave #2 Clemson a helluva scare. They had an opportunity to tie the game at the end but missed the 2 point try.

The Nike ad aired on the PSU game last night.

My only takeaway on college football from yesterday is that NCAAF is now being targeted.

My takeaway: white kids are still caste out of skill positions by school recruiters.

“Ten takeaways from a substantive and occasionally stunning weekend in college football...”

Nothing about a bunch of full-sized Rock ‘em Sock ‘em robots running into each other chasing a little ball is “substantive,” much less “stunning.”

Someone should take all those ads and put pink hats on them.

The ACC Refs gave Clemson huge help along the way, over and over capped by the terrible touchback call.

Maybe 10% of NCAA FB games are competitive. Maybe. The rest are double digit blowouts. On the whole, boring.

Savannah State Tigers were destroyed by a mediocre Hurricanes team, 77-0.

Why are they still in DIV 1? Since moving to the NCAA Division I FCS in 2000, the Tigers have compiled a record of 22–140.

There should be a yearly promoted/demoted system put in place.

The Penn State and Pitt College Football Teams were wearing Nike uniforms.

They undoubtedly signed long term endorsement deals that aren’t easy to walk away from. Kind of like when the Dixie Chicks trashed GWB then started a sold out American tour. You didn’t see the impact of what happened to them until they tried to sell tickets for their next tour.

the only people surprised by the Kentucky win were those unfamiliar with college football...Kentucky has 5 players in their defensive back seven who will be in the NFL next year and their running back should be a Heisman candidate...the Florida roster is void of major talent...

Takeaway #1

Whoever scheduled Rutgers against Ohio State is a sick sadistic monster.

The people most surprised by Kentucky's win are Kentucky fans. Normally, UK finds a way to lose.

As Rutgers is in the Big Ten East Division with Ohio State (and Michigan and Penn State), there’s not much alternative.

Nike cleverly knew the College Football teams would be wearing their uniforms. They waited to get hire their new spokesman till after the deals were confirmed, to guarantee they would wear the uniforms this season. I put on a baseball shirt the other day. It was Nike. I took it off.

FSU & UF are in their first seasons with a new coach & new systems. UGA went from 9-3 in the previous regular season to 7-5 under Smart in his first year. UGA barely edged out fearsome Nicholls State 26-24 in Smart’s second game, and that was a home game for UGA. So, give it time before pronouncing things a disaster.

Takeaway: Once again, my Longhorns were overrated at the start of the season and they proved it again yesterday.

Takeaway: Hometown hero Kyler Murray is still a badass and will carry the Sooners through a stellar season.
