HAMPTON BEACH, N.H. - New Hampshire Fish and Game has fined the man who said he accidentally kicked a seagull on Hampton Beach.
Nate Rancloes was charged with a violation level offense of taking a protected bird during a closed season.
Rancloes, a decorated veteran who received a Purple Heart in 2005, told NH1 he was sitting in the sand eating a cheeseburger and fries, when the seagull got to his meal.
I spun around in a circle with my leg out to shoo it away, and unfortunately, did strike the seagull hard, Rancloes said. It was a one in a million bad luck kick that couldnt be repeated. This is no more than a simple mistake. But social media has blown it into something it is not.
New Hampshire Fish and Game still moved forward with a $124 fine because seagulls are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Can’t tell from article if the bird survived or not.
Seagulls, the Rats of The Sky, are a protected species?
Holy crap.
Seagulls are Protected Birds ??
Absurd. Seagulls are everywhere! Rats with wings.
There are so few of them!
Seagulls are protected?
How in the heck are seagulls “protected”? They are flying rats, there are jillions of them everywhere.
Hey, any seagull that tried to steal my In-And-Out Double-Double would be at high risk.....
I watched two groups of birds going at discarded foam clamshells to get the food scraps inside. The gulls bashed their way through the plastic. The crows undid the slot and tab latches and opened the lids back.
Also, why is there a “season” for seagulls? Does someone actually hunt and eat them? I thought they tasted rancid.
likely killed because it said ‘taking a protected species’ which mean killing-
It was designed to protect birds that cross international borders.
Countries can harvest them with seasons and limits, but no one has put a season on seagulls.
He could have just fed it an Alka-Seltzer.
“Rats with wings.”
I thought that was pigeons. lol
LOL !!!
SOUTHGATE Police shot and killed about 250 seagulls Thursday morning at the vacant Saturn of Southgate site on Fort Street two days before the 13th annual Cruisin Downriver along the route.
