In the course of a conversation, an acquaintance recently mentioned that the TBS comedy The Detour had been renewed for a fourth season. It was odd because I dont watch the show and also because Im sure he had no idea I had once written about an episode which (we are told by the website) is created, written and executive-produced by Jason Jones and Samantha Bee.
Bee, of course, is the hyper pro-abortion, hyper-foul mouthed comedian whose hatred for President Trump had plummeted to new depths. I had been directed to The Road by a terrific post by Katie Yoder of Newsbusters.
Yoder explained that the episode begins
with a flashback where Robin (Natalie Zea) held a positive pregnancy test while sitting on the toilet.
We dont have to decide right now, she calmed Nate (Jason Jones). Well weigh the options and I will make the decision.
The show then flashes forward years later to present time. Daughter Delilah (Ashley Gerasimovich) and son Jared (Liam Carroll) are the back seat of their car.
What decision?, Jared asks.
Long pause and Robin and Nate look at each other. You brought it up, not me, Nate says.
Im really confused right now. You were pregnant. So what was there to decide? Delilah asks.
Well, I had to make a choice, Robin begins. I had to make a choice, uh about whether or not I was gonna keep you?
You were thinking about giving us up for adoption?
No, not exactly.
Well, who was gonna be our mom and dad?
The way out for Robin is to try to find a euphemism for abortion.
I had to, uh, make a choice about whether or not I wanted to take a-a trip to the um, Europe.
And then Robins oblique explanation/ justification:
See, the theyre a lot of women, who, um, find themselves in a position where they feel like they have to choose between being a mom and going to Europe, and and its a its a very, very serious decision and one that should never be taken lightly. And make no mistake, every woman deserves the right to choose Europe, if she so desires.
Without acknowledging what shed almost done, Robin says with heartfelt emotion, But just know this. Every time I look at you, I am so thankful that I decided to stay in Syracuse.
Nate tells the kids that their mom gave up a trip to Europe and he gave up a hockey career and we both made the right choice.
So, Jared asks, did his mom ever go to Europe?
Just once, Robin says. Last year of high school.
Nate looks at her quizzically and, perhaps, painfully?
Is that too much truth? Robin says.
So Ms. Bee has it both ways in The Road. The story affirms that not only could Robin have had an abortion, she did. But we do not learn this until after she sincerely tells Delilah and Jared that she is so, so grateful she didnt abort them (take a trip to Europe), as she had her first baby.
The episode does a truly exquisite job of showing just how impossible it is to tell children they could have been aborted. (When former Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards finally acknowledged shed had an abortion, she told interviewers her kids were just fine with learning that. Personally, I dont believe that for a nanosecond.)
And while the story line does allow Bee to advance her pro-choice, ideology, it also leaves another possibility: that Robin could and would have loved that lost baby.
bkmk
I believe that knowing your mom and dad (if he is in the picture, still) are pro-abortion affects a youngsters thinking. It sets into motion that they, the child, was really, very disposable. When that thought enters a child’s head, it changes them and usually not for the good. Even is mom (or dad) become pro-life, having to explain to children what their prior beliefs are can be devastating to the child/children.
Are your parents Pro-Choice? I guess you got lucky!
I know of lib women who have a couple children who get pregnant just to have an abortion at about 6 months just to prove to their kids about a ‘woman’s empowerment’. Also that abortions are really cool and sexy.
My mother told me she tried to abort me by getting really drunk and taking a hot bath. When that didn’t work she tried suicide. I don’t think the bitch ever forgave me for being born.
I was 12 years old when Roe v. Wade came to be. :(
I remember my Mom SOBBING when she heard the news that abortions were no longer illegal and it was going to be a free-for-all from 1972, forward.
She held me close, explained to me what this meant, and gave me, ‘The Talk.’ It was a little ahead of schedule, but I’ll NEVER forget it. She explained to me that when I was older and if I was NOT married and I was pregnant that she and I would raise that baby ourselves. Fortunately, I never had to put her to that test. ;)
I will also never forget how she had me sit down in front of the TV for JFK’s funeral and told me, ‘You NEED to remember this.’ (I was 4 at the time.)
Was she being a CRUEL Mom for letting me know, in words I could understand at the time, how IMPORTANT both History and the Sanctity of LIFE are? (She and Dad were rock-ribbed Republicans, but they loved JFK.)
Moms are SO important. I cannot believe the number of women that take Our Most Important God-Given Role In Life for granted!
Boy, are THEY going to be surprised when St. Peter says, ‘You’re Fired!’
Literally. On Fire for Eternity. ;)
Quite a choice - a human life or a trip to Europe - never end up in a foxhole with one of these zombies.......
Damn. Nothing brings a family close together like hearing your mom tried several times to abort you.
You have my sympathy. I cannot imagine the anguish you must have endured.
May God continue to watch over you.
there're
Awkward, but....
Similar story.
Pure evil.
I commiserate.
Other people can never understand.
Why would a mom admit this to a child, except maybe to set themselves up as some sort of martyr.
Yeah. My mother acted like that.
Sicko. Really.
