Yes, there would be plenty of volunteers for even this test mission.
Perhaps it could fall under the Right to Try bill?

You can either use a half way turn over point firing full throttle or a braking orbit around a large body - a more sensible option.

A truthful answer will label you. That answer is “I don’t know, but they destroyed all the blueprints and rocket designs that were necessary” for some reason.

I am a huge booster for American to be pioneering the solar system but I think sending an empty crew capsule around the moon is a pointless exercise. They could put that capsule into Earth orbit and get the same results without wasting all that fuel, time, and money. We've been building space capsules since the late 1950s, for over 70 years, and I don't see how this useless launch, doing the same thing we have first did 70 years ago is going to prove anything.
NASA is a waste and the entire department needs to be shut down and a new one created from scratch to replace it because the bureaucratic NASA clowns have become useless.

That seems like a suspicious action to me.
I also find it suspicious that the most successful designs of space craft and equipment simply all of a sudden one day ended, and were never used for anything else, further advanced, nothing.
Just kaput, okay we’re done.
Uh, yeah, doesn’t make a whole of or even any sense to me.

I think the reason for a Circum Lunar Flight is to test the heat shields coming in at higher speeds than just Earth Orbit.

For the sake of the crew, they better have something like Skylab to rattle around in. Can you imagine spending 7 or 8 months in that small spacecraft? You’d go crazy. With a Skylab-like ship, they could get away from each other when needed. If I was making the trip, I would sure love to have it.

That wasn’t the case for the shuttle. It was manned from the first to last flight. But I see you point.

If I recall correctly, the shuttle program was badly behind schedule, over budget, and under political fire so an unmanned first test flight was dispensed with.

They will be in a habitat module during the trip.

“I think the reason for a Circum Lunar Flight is to test the heat shields coming in at higher speeds than just Earth Orbit.”
Bullshit. They could fire rockets from Earth orbit towards Earth to approximate the higher reentry speeds.
Face it, NASA bureaucrats have been yanking-stick and wasting money to stall for time and to explain away their uselessness.
Every goddamned one n NASA needs to be fired.
