Huber Watch
U.S. Attorney for Utah John Huber in the News

A lot is riding on the shoulders of John Huber, what is he up to, based on news accounts?

There were quite a few news outlets, mostly on the right that ran variations on this story. "Why hasn't Huber interviewed Bruce Ohr."

Q actually did a post on this, saying that this is a misinterpretation. None the less, the line of article probably got Huber more press in a day than he's had in the last month. Here are a couple samples:

Why Hasn't U.S. Attorney John Huber Talked to Bruce Ohr Yet?

In the absence of any action from the Sessions/Rosenstein DOJ, President Trump's supporters have been counting on Huber to get to the bottom of what has come to be known as "SpyGate."

Attorney General Jeff Session tasked Huber with the job late last year, and the attorney has reportedly been conducting a quiet investigation into the Obama-era surveillance abuses ever since. Allegedly.

Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX) told reporters after the hearing that he believed Ohr’s testimony needs to be referred to Huber.

“I would expect that his testimony and transcript today would be of interest to United States Attorney John Huber, who I understand has been tasked with investigating specifically whether or not the FISA process was abused as it related to obtaining a warrant on an American citizen named Carter Page,” Ratcliffe said.

The Texas congressman raised the issue again on Hannity Tuesday night.

"There's a guy named John Huber -- he's the U.S. attorney for Utah who's been tasked by Jeff Sessions to investigate FISA abuse," he began.

"Where's he?!" Hannity asked exasperatedly.

"Well, my recommendation to Mr. Huber would be for him to contact my office and ask for a copy of the transcript of Bruce Ohr, and I'll make his job a lot easier," Ratcliffe said.

...

Here is the response from Q in post #1987:

Logical thinking!
How did this FAKE/MISLEADING story pop up?
Hannity 8.28.18

[24:50] - "Rec - Huber contact my office re: BO"
[30:45] - "Just learned BO was not interviewed by Huber"
[30:45] based on comments re: [24:50]
[24:50] statements made by (1) Congressman who does NOT know if Huber has already interviewed BO.
See how FAKE NEWS works?
See how CLICKBAIT works?
See how EMOTIONAL PUSHES TO TARGETED READERS works?
Q
Despite this, the same story was reported at Yahoo and The Hill, which included this quote:

working with the DOJ’s inspector general to probe Republican-fueled allegations of surveillance abuse at the FBI and DOJ. Huber was quietly tapped by Attorney General Jeff Sessions last year.

“I would expect that his testimony and transcript today would be of interest to United States Attorney John Huber, who I understand has been tasked with investigating specifically whether or not the FISA process was abused as it related to obtaining a warrant on an American citizen named Carter Page,” Ratcliffe said.

Meanwhlie, Huber is still the USA for Utah, and he continues to show up doing stuff there, like:

Rolling out the new ballistic testing equipment in Utah:

New ballistic testing finds early success

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (News4Utah) Utah is touted as an example for the country because of a successful new ballistic testing program.

On Monday, federal leaders said the program connected guns to 75 violent crime cases in Utah in just two months.

When eight shots were fired into a South Salt Lake City home on June 30, police say they didn't know the accused shooter's handgun was used in another drive-by at a birthday party in Ogden weeks earlier.

...

"We have successfully deployed technology that should leave gang members and thugs shaking in their boots," US Attorney for the District of Utah John Huber said.

Ballistic comparisons aren't anything new. However, this technology accelerates results from six months to one week. Three-D imaging makes the tests more accurate.

...

US Attorney Huber praised the new technology for beefing up the case against 33-year-old Justin Llewelyn, who is accused of running from police in Provo back in January. Investigators believe they linked the gun found in his truck to shots fired at a homeowner and an officer in Harriman.

Huber is briefly cited in the WSJ Story on turning the FBI around:

How to Restore the FBI’s Culture:
Decentralize management of cases, improve relations with Congress, and focus on the Constitution.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has turned a corner. Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and now Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok have been fired. The Justice Department’s inspector general has issued a report, and is at work on another, looking at specific alleged abuses. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has appointed U.S. Attorney John Huber to review the recent failings. Since James Comey’s dismissal, the bureau now has a new director, deputy director and chief of staff.

The (unknown to me) news source World Tribune has a full feature piece on Huber's role helping clean up the FBI.

Not a lot of new information in this, more of a background piece, but still decent:

Who is John Huber? 7th floor at FBI called center of power in nation’s capital

by WorldTribune Staff, August 24, 2018

FBI agents are privately voicing frustration that the agency and the Department of Justice have focused almost exclusively on investigations of Trump-Russia collusion while allowing probes on other major issues to die, including Hillary Clinton’s ties to the sale of U.S. uranium rights to a Russian-controlled company.

“It seems that there is a pattern of investigations dying on the vine that is occurring for no other explainable reason but that senior executives both in the FBI and DOJ are choosing to allow them to die or forcing them to die,” a former senior FBI official said, according to an Aug. 23 report by investigative journalist Sara Carter.

U.S. Attorney John Huber. / AP “The people actually doing the investigating – the junior agents – aren’t the ones who can make the decisions to allow the case to die. It can only be done at the very senior levels at the FBI. AKA: the seventh floor.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions earlier this year tasked U.S. Attorney for Utah John Huber, an Obama holdover, with investigating whether the FBI abused its authority in surveilling a former aide to the Trump campaign and whether federal officials should have probed deeper into allegations of Clinton’s ties to the sale of U.S. uranium rights to Russia.

...

There are a few other very short mentions, basically that's he's working with the OIG at the Epoch Times and The Hill.

That's all I've got for now.
Cheers!
