Sexually-transmitted diseases continue to hit all-time highs in the U.S. with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting a 10 percent spike for chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis in 2017. The federal health agency said in a report released Tuesday that the numbers, which include nearly 2.3 million new cases of the aforementioned diseases, reflect a steep, sustained increase in STDs since 2013.
Were sliding backward, Jonathan Mermin, director of CDCs National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention, said. It is evident the systems that identify, treat and ultimately prevent STDs are strained to near-breaking point.
While primary and secondary syphilis diagnoses went up by 76 percent, chlamydia remained the most commonly reported to the CDC with nearly half of the new cases occurring in females ages 15-to-24.
The three highlighted diseases are treatable, but the report said most go undiagnosed, which can lead to infertility, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth and an increased HIV risk. The report noted that previous studies have pointed to poverty, stigma, discrimination and drug use as contributing factors.

Gee, I wonder how that happens
Now I understand why the call it, “Burning Man”.
I wonder if there’s a connection to the percent of illegals and what they’re bringing into the country?
Curiously, nothing noted about rampant indiscriminate sex as a possible factor.
Hookup Horror
I cant imagine dating a hookup lady.
Goodness gracious...........
We know how these diseases are spread, and we know of ways to avoid exposure. Yet these diseases keep spreading. Amazingly sad that these problems are out there.
According to the CDC 80% of sexually active Americans will be infected by at least one type of genital HPV in their lifetime.
The IM Bicillin 2.4 million units is flying off our shelves lately. Just looking at the size of that injection would make me celibate!
***The three highlighted diseases are treatable,***
Forty eight years ago I read a book ‘Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* *But Were Afraid to Ask.’ by Dr. David Reuben. In it was listed lots of other nasty STDs I’ve never seen mentioned since. Anyone remember those diseases?
The list was so scary you wanted to “keep it in your pants.”
I’m sure this outcome is utterly unrelated to sexual immorality.
Note to self: Don’t have sex with 15-24 year olds who are poor, stigmatized, discriminated against, or drug users.
How does stimatized and discriminated work? Is discriminated a way of saying race? Is stigmatized a way of saying skank? What does that mean?
Apparently if someone is already stigmatized and discriminated against, I should have nothing to do with them.

I had bicillin shots back in 1961 for really bad tonsillitis (Quinsy). It was a big tube, very thick fluid. it had to be warmed under hot water to make it flow and even then the nurse had a time pushing the plunger on the syringe.
Remember, “gay marriage” was supposed to remedy this.
Of course. Sexual Freedom (and the right to choose) are the most important values in the entire universe. Why ... if we're not allowed to rut like a bunch of weasels on cocaine, we're being oppressed!!!
I think the CDC lists over 225 std’s, but they only test for the top 5 or so.
It’s kind of worrisome what’s not tested for. Maybe some of the others have obvious symptoms. Or are so rare as to not be a threat in the US. I don’t know.
I wish we had star trek technology that would allow us to scan a person.
Have you seen the IUD commercial encouraging promiscuous sex without fear of pregnancy? They only have a quick disclaimer at the end saying it doesnt protect against STDs. Absolutely insane.
GAY MEN are 92% responsible for this increase. But you have to scour the footnotes to figure that out.
