I agree. It may change the story from “grabbed off the street by a total stranger” to “picked up by someone she knew but should not have trusted.” That doesn’t make the murder any less horrible, of course, but it might relieve some of the terror created by the notion that everyone is a potential victim of being grabbed off the street by a total stranger.
