Why does anyone who’s no longer on the job keep their security clearance? What’s their need to know?

Precisely. As a blanket policy Trump should revoke them from ANYBODY who is not currently serving in government.

That's really the $64,000 question. Clearance should be revoked as soon as the paychecks stop. Across the board. 100%. No exceptions.

Can probably be traced back to liberals who hope liberal clearance holders will undermine the nation's security.

8/23/2011 mine vanished. I no longer was employed thus no need for a clearance. And, no I didn’t whine,

Former CIA director John Brennan, whose security clearance you revoked on Wednesday, is one of the finest public servants I have ever known.

Given that statement, yes, his clearance should be revoked.

keep their security clearance? What’s their need to know?

Two different issues. Clearance means nothing without access.

Exactly! I think mine ended the day I got laid off from my defense contractor job.

Swampocrats are special.

What’s their need to know?

Swampocrats always need to know ... so they can abuse and misuse sensitive information.

Most keep the clearances until they naturally expire - lack of need to know means access is removed and under normal conditions a person is "read out" and signs another set of non-disclosure forms that spell out the potential punishments for trying to gain access to unauthorized info or to spill the beans about anything they learned while on the job..

Many enlisted/civilian employees with clearances end up moving to contractor type jobs that also require a clearance - if it has been under a certain time frame since the last investigation for the current clearance, it can be "turned back on" w/o overloading the investigative folks who, for many years were understaffed which caused a lot of other problems.

IOW - there is valid reason to leave the clearance intact and just let it expire naturally while removing access.
