The Earth’s oceans lock away atmospheric carbon dioxide, but a ‘leak’ in the Southern Ocean, which surrounds Antarctica, brings the greenhouse gas back into the atmosphere.

A team of scientists led by Princeton University and the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry looked at concentrations of nitrogen embedded in deep-sea corals and shelled microorganisms called diatoms and foraminifers to identify an increase in Southern Ocean upwelling during the past 11,000 years, which could explain the mysterious warmth of the Holocene period that allowed human populations to flourish.

Note how they’re saying the climate is stable.
Yet they claim it isn’t and we must embrace communism to save the earth any other time.
Seems they want it both ways.

Just recently it was announced that at least one (and,IIRC,it was more than one) active volcano was discovered under the Antarctic ice shelf and that it's believed that volcanic activity is at least partially responsible for the melting of that ice shelf.

And yet I'm forced to ride a bike in order to lower CO2 in the atmosphere.

“The biological pump, in its simplest form, is the ocean’s biologically driven sequestration of carbon from the atmosphere to deep sea water and sediment.[1]

It is the part of the oceanic carbon cycle responsible for the cycling of organic matter formed mainly by phytoplankton during photosynthesis (soft-tissue pump), as well as the cycling of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) formed into shells by certain organisms such as plankton and mollusks (carbonate pump).[2]

Overview:

The biological pump can be divided into three distinct phases,[3] the first of which is the production of fixed carbon by planktonic phototrophs in the euphotic (sunlit) surface region of the ocean.

In these surface waters, phytoplankton use carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and other trace elements (barium, iron, zinc, etc.) during photosynthesis to make carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins. Some plankton, (e.g. coccolithophores and foraminifera) combine calcium (Ca) and dissolved carbonates (carbonic acid and bicarbonate) to form a calcium carbonate (CaCO3) protective coating.

Once this carbon is fixed into soft or hard tissue, the organisms either stay in the euphotic zone to be recycled as part of the regenerative nutrient cycle or once they die, continue to the second phase of the biological pump and begin to sink to the ocean floor.

The sinking particles will often form aggregates as they sink, greatly increasing the sinking rate. It is this aggregation that gives particles a better chance of escaping predation and decomposition in the water column and eventually make it to the sea floor.

The fixed carbon that is either decomposed by bacteria on the way down or once on the sea floor then enters the final phase of the pump and is remineralized to be used again in primary production.

The particles that escape these processes entirely are sequestered in the sediment and may remain there for millions of years.

It is this sequestered carbon that is responsible for ultimately lowering atmospheric CO2. ...”

CO2 does not cause warming...or cooling...C02 IN the atmosphere FOLLOWS warming or cooling.

“We think we may have found the answer. Increased circulation in the Southern Ocean allowed carbon dioxide to leak into the atmosphere, working to warm the planet,” said Princeton University’s Professor Daniel Sigman, co-author of the study.

Somewhere, some global warming, freaked out Democrat, social justice warrior, is having a cow, and dreaming up ways to blame Trump for it. What a bunch of asshats.

We actually have a long way to warm up before we reach “historic” temperatures. And it is all Antarctica’s fault.
Before Antarctica broke free from South America, you didn’t have polar water currents that fueled polar air currents. Once it was free, those polar currents formed and caused a place akin to modern Alaska to grow colder and grow miles thick ice sheets. This pulled the PLANET’s temperature down 10°F at least.
Before that, there were only tropical and semi-tropical climate systems on the planet barring deserts and swamps. There was no tundra or taiga. Ice ages probably occurred but were just spring-like versus freezing.
We’ll know we’ve warmed to historic norms when there is no ice at the south pole, just like it was when the dinosaurs ran around.

A leak?....the gestimating and assumptions and computer models are all over the place...the Earth will do exactly as it pleases . Our existence is a mere hiccup to this fantastic creation of God’s ...I wish those who do such study and observations of our planet would just say that they think (guess) this is how it works...the arrogance of some of these hired scientists is only surpassed by their ignorance at times.

I’d have more credibility in his findings if he had said that “fairy dust” combined with the CO2 had warmed us for 11,000 years.

Maybe the answer is to put one of them swimming pool covers over the oceans with venting controls.....hope someone gets a big juicy grant to study the feasibility....
